My '73 Chrysler 55 HP does not pump water. Installed a new impeller, sanded back plate & water pump housing, inspected water tube seal @ pump (good seal). I blew compressed air into the water tube & while most of the air came out the exhaust, some came back thru the compartment where the water tube is.The water tube is not rigid at the top, It has lateral play at the top, I can move the bottom back & forth. My question is the fact that I feel air coming down in that compartment it seems that the problem may be there. How do I get to that area. I have found no diagrams & not even seen a part listed for the water tube from the pump to the powerhead. HELP!!!!

  1. Are you saying it is not pumping water because you are not seeing solid water vs spit water in the exhaust?? Is the engine new to you and this is something that has changed??
  2. Is the engine running hot per the temp gauge or horn?

Welcome.
The water tube is listed with the lower unit parts diagrams.
It should be wiggly.
It's just pushed up in there.
IF?? it's in now don't pull it out.
Most of the exhaust exit's through the snout on the bottom.
There is a hose on top of the motor, most I have seen are clear and you can see the flow???
You can T off that hose and install a pee tube.

Test the overheat alarm.
On the head is a temp sending unit.
Key on, ground the lead from the sending unit.
That should activate the horn,NO?
The horn could be in 2 places.
Inside the shifter itself or a horn under the dash somewhere.
