Hi to all,

I have been scrubbing the forums for assistance in hopes not to repost a thread. Great Site.

I am a first timer boater. I bought a '73 Crestliner. I figured it out to be the Crusader 17. I/O with a 140 Merc.

I cannot find any example on the internet of what the proper data plate for this year boat would have had for weight and passengers. I have found the formula to determine that it can hold 8 passenger or 1500 lbs.

If anyone can give me any guidance on where to find a picture of this so I can get it recreated, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the time and your help!!

Sorry should have put that out before.I went to crestliner. Was told they'd check. Weeks later ask if they found anything. They asked for pics of my boat. Sent old ad from 1973 and it showed the boat and passenger info. They told me in email to carry this old ad in place of the data plate.

You don't need that plate in order to run the boat. The data is what's important to you; but if you're titled, registered and ready the boat is good to go without the plate (if that's what you're worried about).

Otherwise, you can have another one made if needed.

I am worried about a cop inspecting me on the water and getting a ticket in VA, NC and Bama. That's why I went alittle OCD on this to be honest.

The plate is a USCG requirement for the manufacturer, but not necessarily the owner. I say "necessarily" because the law on it is a little fuzzy if anyone can cite you for not having one. If you're pre-1972, no sweat ... you just missed :D

Local LEOs arent' going to even look for that plate - they are going to check your state's required safety gear and paperwork.

If you want a better feel for how the USCG would react to it, I'd call the Auxilliary in your area and ask.

The capacity plate is NOT required by federal law. I suppose it's possible that some local jurisdictions have a requirement for one; there are certainly some states in which it is illegal to exceed the maximum horsepower, load, or number of passengers listed there.
