I have a 1973 evinrude 135hp silver starflite with a 16' boat
now i have a 14X17 aluminium propeller. I run 5000 rpm and 35mph at full speed.
today i try a 13 1/4X17 aluminium propeller. i do 5000 rpm and 40mph at full speed.
what going to be the best propeller for me.
i want to go fast but i want to do wakeboard to.
i check in the part list of my engine and we have a couple of choices
but the standard it's 13x19 but some body say to me put 21
but my question is to put 14X21 or 13 1/4x21 or like evinrude parts list 12 3/4x21

or just put the standart one
thanks

Re: 1973 Evinrude 135hp Silver Starflite Good Proppeller?????

The Silver Starflite came standard with the expensive Stainless Steel Teflon (SST) prop as standard as well as power trim & tilt. You are right, it used a 13x19 as standard as well.

I have a propeller list with applications in a 1974 OMC Accessories brochure (the Silver Starflite was made as a 1974 and 1975 model).

13x19 is suggested for 17' to 19' boats with speed range of 35 to 50 mph (aluminum version is 35 - 48 mph).

12 3/4 x 21 is suggested for 15' to 18' boats with a top speed range of 42 - 56 mph (SST).

12 3/4 x 23 is listed for high-performance boats with top speed ranging from 48-65 mph.

Your current 14x17 prop sound like it is for a longer, heavier boat. I'd speculate that you could use more pitch and less diameter UNLESS you or your fellow wakeboarders are heavy-set. If that is the case the shorter pitch and larger diameter of your current prop can get boarders up and moving quickly. Conversely too much pitch and your motor won't reach peak operating rpm and you won't see 135 horsepower.

If there is a way that you can borrow a prop and water test it then you will know. Perhaps 2 different props are something you might consider, one for speed, and one for boarding.
