Could someone please get me on the right path to checking the points on this motor. I am changing upper oil seal and wanted to check the points. Flywheel says 0.020 Thanks

First, dress the point's surface with a piece of folded over 600 grit or so sandpaper. Then clean them with alcohol, acetone or chlorinated cleaner.

When you get the armature plate back on the block, turn the armature plate or crankshaft until one point opens up to it's maximum. This will happen when the flywheel key "points" to the point's rubbing block. When you've got that ste, adjust the point by turning the eccentric slot screw at it's base. It should be adjusted so a .020" feeler gauge slides between the point's faces, but a .022" one encounters resistance.

Flywheel nut torque is 45ft/lbs.
