Have a 1973 Evinrude 65 Hp and I am getting water in the number 3 cylinder. Had this problem 2 years ago. I replaced the Head Gasket last spring and it ran great all last summer. Have had it out 5 or 6 times this year and it ran great also. Last time out on the water it would take forever to get up to max rpm at WOT. Once it did it ran ok but had a small rattle in the engine and was not performing as good as usual. When I got home i pulled the plugs and the number 3 was wet. I did a compression check and Have #1-110psi #2-105psi #3-90psi Could it be the head gasket again and if so what would cause it to go bad so quickly? Thanks for the help.

HI
Only easy way to tell is to pull the head and inspect. When you replaced the head gasket, did you:

-check the head for straightness with straight edge
-resurface head on rubbing block or flat surface
-torque head to specs
-torque head in proper bolt sequence

Pulled the head and the gasket does not look damaged. The #3 piston has a very small hole in the center but it does not go all the way through. It is a perfect hole almost like it was done with a tiny drill bit. Have you ever seen this. Head is straight and I will put on a new gasket. What else should I check for this water problem. It is getting only in the one cylinder. Thanks for you advice.
