Thought I'd do a good thing for the kids and get a boat and go play on the lake. Well, I did. Found a 1975 Glastron with a 73 70 HP Evinrude, solid floor, solid transcom and hull. The motor just had lower unit put on recently (old one had seized up), The individual started it, ran great, went through the gears and acted just fine. Got it home and then of course loaded it up and headed for the lake. Backed it in, warmed it up (ran fine) and put it in gear, you guessed it, died!!! After a few more embarrassing attempts I gave up. Pulled the boat boat out and went elsewhere where there were not a lot of people watching me try to figure this thing out. Got it back in the water after bumping the idle up and it would idle like a champ. As I went to back it off the trailer it hit me that this thing was pushing not pulling. Yes, reverse is forward and forward is reverse. Being I'm not the smartest about boats but however on the most part mechanically inclined, is this a problem I can fix or does it need to go to a shop. Second problem is the steering, an adjustment thing but being I've only had the boat about 24 hours, i don't have a manual. How hard is it to adjust the steering, the problem is it turns twice as far to the right as it does the left..
