1973 Evinrude 9.5 engine fuel connection woes

I got my new 9.5 acquisition all tuned and new ignition. I had trouble with OMC fuel fitting sticking really tight on the engine connection to the point it took pliers to pull them off. They would all also leak like crazy. Got a new fitting and tried various old ones. Outboard is in good conditon with not a lot of use. You have to take off the whole tiller arm assembly to get at the fitting. IT seems to be swaged into the handel and not easily removed like later and other models that simply come off with a bolt attachment. Can anyone tell me if I need to get a whole new (used) tiller assembly or is there a way to get this fitting out to put a new used one in?.

The complete bracket and fuel connection assembly is a separate part (0380966) but generally listed as obsolete or unavailable . (Not even listed by iBoats)
However Marine Engine has 1 in stock, according to their website, $43.75

The guide pin and the fuel nipple are also, more readily. and more cheaply, available as separate parts . Maybe one or other of those is damaged causing your trouble ( 0303603 and 0303597 respectively) Dont know how you'd fit them though.

Is the fitting that jams an OEM or aftermarket part? I have had lots of grief with the Attwood and other aftermarket fittings. There are some similar shaped combos that are NOT compatible.

Try a known OMC-friendly tank and hose.
