Got this motor last year. Went over it during the winter and replaced plugs, thermostat and impeller. Also changed lower gear oil. Everything looks good. Did a compression test both Cyl come out around 95. Tested spark and it looks OK with the test light.

Figured its fishing season so I added fresh gas and tried to start.. NOTHING.... would not even attempt to start. was debating if I needed to rebuild carb. ?? so I Shot some starter fluid in the carb .. still nothing.... ????? Got spark, got compression.. got fuel... STILL NOTHING

Does anyone know if the stop button kills the spark or shuts it down at some other level.??????
I also replace the old style rubber button with a lanyard style... Got a searra that did both mag and 12v..

Have to get it back in the shop and troubleshoot. Just figured I would pick some brains to see if you all have any ideas???????? Thanks,

the stop button only shorts out the magneto when pushed but the best thing to do for now is unclip the 2 wires going to the switch and retry ...keep in mind if you saw sparks the kill button is probably ok

test without that new switch you can open the original one and clean it up inside if not broken they work fine

make certain the throttle is advanced enough go beyond START if need be & pull the choke till it burps

95psi looks high on a 9.5 they are frequently lower but…. good for you is 95 is 95

went over it …. means you did the carb properly …?

If spark does not jump across an actual gap of 5/16" your magneto needs work.-----It has 2 coils that may be cracked or replacements already.---Very common.------Laying plugs on the block and observing a wee spark is not a good test.-----Pull the flywheel and clean / set points at 0.020" too.----Perhaps your lanyard is not set right.----Should be " open " for a magneto to produce spark.

Use starting fluid with the throttle wide open when you spray it in there, just a little bit, then put throttle on start. No start, no spark or really weak spark.

If you want peace of mind, you can squirt WD-40 first. Some say you can use WD-40 like starter fluid, but I never had the nerve to try is as I'm usually burning daylight and don't want to waste time on a flooded engine.
