Can anyone point me to an online source for the seal kit for this motor/lower unit?? Also, I know shop prices are quite variable, but what is a fair price to pay for a pressure/vacuum test and reseal job?? The mech I was using left town in a hurry, hmmm, and I am working with a new shop now. Don't mind paying the right/fair price, but don't want to get ripped either. Just got this old girl running tight and fast again, now I need to get the bottom end sealed tight. Thanks.

Re: 1973 Merc 500 lower unit seals

Thanks for responding guys.
Hooty: what throws me off is every parts page I find only shows a seal kit for Merc 500's starting with 4 or greater serial number. Mine is a older, a 73 with serial number 3479524 to be exact. Does it use the same kit...listed at 18-2654??
John: What did the seal kit cost? Was it a kit for lower unit seals?

Not sure if this will help or not. I ordered mine today from here. I just called the guy and he was very helpful.
:p
Seal Kits

Don' know Tim. Looks like that 18-2654 fits a lot of stuff. You might send 'um an e-mail and see.

c/6

Hooty

I'm sorry, I don't remember what it cost, but it was all the seals and gaskets needed for the lower unit (gear case). vintageoutboard.com is a good place to get seals and gaskets
