My 1973 Merc 7.5 hasn't been run for several years. I finally had it in the water on Saturday and it runs great on my 12' Alumacraft boat. It has a new water pump and fuel tank. Before launching it I connected the fuel line and squeezed the primer ball until it was firm. When I primed it fuel came out of the carburator and ran down the motor. The cowling was installed so I couldn't see exactly where the fuel came out. Is it normal for fuel to come out of the carburator when priming or over priming? After wiping down the motor I launched the boat and the motor started normally and ran great. Much better than this pesimist expected. I didn't notice any fuel leaking or smell fuel while the motor was running.
I have had several positive comments about 7.5 Merc and from my first experience on the water they were correct.
