1973 OMC Electric Shift (irritating problem)

Hello all,

We recently replaced the shift switch and still no forward gear. Reverse and neutral are fine. We did the Ohms and voltage tests at the switch and at the shift wires. Switch is good but only pulling 10V at the shift wires. Don't know how imperative 2V is.

Any ideas out there would be appreciated. This is driving us nuts!

Something is dropping your voltage down. Check the connector coming out of the outdrive wires. if they are rusty that could be the voltage drop. Also check for a ground.
One lead on the wire and one on a good ground. if you have continuity or better to do it on ohm reading then you have a ground somewhere.

Hi Guys, thanks for your responses. Our Ohms were 4.8. Well within spec range. We did disconnect the shift wires at the outdrive and applied 12V to these wires and determined that we now have a forward gear issue in the lower unit. NOT good news with the cost of these parts.

Appreciate your responses!
