1974 115etl74b stator problems

i have replaced the stator twice why does it still continue to melt some one had mentioned to get a voltige regulator that goes where the water jacket is rmove an replace it with regulator will this work or what do i need to do it has 16 volts comming out of it as far as the voltmeter says

Either a bad regulator/rectifier and/or a marginal ignition pak will overload a stator and shorten its life.

I highly recommend the CDI Ignition Troubleshooting manual and a DVA meter

Test and re-test all componentws to ensure ALL values are within spec.

16 volts is too high but before ordering a new part I would retest with another meter and/or verify your meters accuracy, disconnect the part and compare ohms test to specs.

Alway, ALWAYS remember, NO RETURN on electrical parts, test twice, order once.
