1974 70 hp evinrude not turning over please help

I put a new starter solenoid on the motor but the only thing it does when you try to start it is click! Can someone please help been told it needs a starter and been told it could be the wires. If anyone knows anything that would get me pointed in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it thanks and god bless

Use a test light or volt meter and check the voltage on the output side of the solenoid when you turn the key. If you have voltage there, test the voltage at the starter itself when you turn the key. If you have voltage to the starter I would think you have a starter problem.
