I am going to be replacing some seals in the lower unit and from looking at my manual I can’t tell if the "oil seal" that is underneath the impeller floor plate go's in from the top or bottom. Anyone have any info on this? Thank you in advance and have a safe and fun weekend! <br />Scott

They can go in from the top - that is, you can replace them after you pull the water pump. I wrap some thin plastic sheeting around the driveshaft, then slide the seal onto the sheeting, then slide the whole thing down to the lower unit - that way the seals don't get scratched up by crud on the driveshaft. The shiftshaft 'donut' is bad more often than the driveshaft seals (in my limited experience).

Thanks a bunch ledgefrinder. Thats more info then i had. When you say "donut" you are speaking of the top seal with the spring retainer :D
