I'm a newbie to the boating world. I've noticed a 3/8" weep hole in my transom plate that allows water to enter my splash well if there are 2 adults in the back of my 16' boat. Should there be a plug for this?

mvabate -- self draining splash wells are there to let water out (splashing from waves, following seas or whatever). If the drain is dipping below the water line and letting water in, you may be overloading your 16 footer -- or not balancing the load quite right.

The splashwell drain hole does not normally have a drain plug. There should be no problem if you wanted to add one.

You might want to check the condition of your boat !------Sometimes foam floatation is water logged and can hold hundreds of pounds of water.----That will make the boat float too low..

3/8ths? Thats way too small to be a splashwell drain.

A splashwell drain should never be plugged, its intended to let water OUT of the boat that splashes into the well (hence SplashWell and Drain).

I dont know where that hole is or what its for, but it isnt a splashwell drain.

Post another pix, from further out to get perspective. If the hole is hard to see in the pix, put a circle around it or use an arrow to point it out.

Thanks for the advice. And yeah if I pour water into my splash well it drains out of this hole making it a drain. Looks like It'll just have to be a two person boat then

That probably is not a drain hole, although I don't know what it is there for. Consider this: A wave or wake sloshing over the transom is caught by the splashwell. The water then needs to drain back out, or you will have many pounds of extra weight on the stern. A second or third wave and---well you get the idea. So, make sure you have some kind of drainage. A 3/8" hole doesn't get it.
