I was trying to do the timing with my meter and there is a huge gap between when the meter is showing 12volts and no volts. Somewhere near 30 degrees. Point gap is 0.010. The motor starts and runs. I just want to make sure I am getting the best performance I can from the engine.

If it's running??
Don't mess with it.
The first 4-5 posts in this forum cover timing and setup for theses motors.
Like I said, don't mess with it or it might not ever be right again.

We are so used to our turn key fuel injected cars. Back in the day engines didn't run perfectly but they ran and they were simple to fix. I gotta keep telling myself that. Getting the points gap right was a real pain. I hope I got it back. I find out today.

Hmm, In gear I only loose 50rpm's, Just had it out Monday and motored around a lot looking for fish on the sonar and it ran well with the idle in N set at 1000rpm. If I have the idle set higher than that it really hits hard when I put it in gear. So gladly the tinkering I did didn't mess it up. I think JerryJerry 05 had the best advise. If it runs don't mess with it. I'll just have a few parts on hand in case something fails like an extra fuel pump kit for example.
