I recently purchase this boat. it rides very well in the water. it has a 135hp evinrude of the same year on it. it has some give in the floors, so I was going to pull them and check everything. I know that there are some soft spots in the transom so I will be redoing that too. my question comes this way. the floor only has a center section that is wood. the rest is very solid fiberglass. i would like to test the stringers but since i would be drilling into a blind area can i get a good enough read on the stringers by only drilling 1/4" in the stringer. since I have no idea how think the stringers are i dont want to go all the way through. the boat was used but stored inside for the last 10yrs or so. when i replace the wood should I leave it wood like it is or should I glass it over and make the floor a solid peice of fiberglass. I have done some research on the boat but any info on this boat would be greatly appreciated. thanks, i will try to post some pics

Re: 1974 chrysler courier 231 questions

well i finally drilled test holes into my stringers to confirm my fears and lo and behold i am getting dry wood shavings, i know that my transom is totally rotten and that is why i have been figuring that my whole boat is rotten. well i fugured i test the rest just so i knew i was junking a truly junk boat. i was just going to take the motor off and find another boat but now i am rethinking doing a poured transom. i was just wondering if anyone could give me some info on how these old chrysler boats were built. i can see the stringers where the fuel tank is but i havent cut up at the front of the boat yet. my question is if the stringers are testing good at the back of the boat by the transom should i be concerned for the front areas? i just dont want cut it up just to check. i dont have any soft floors.
