Hello to all,
I am working on a 1974 merc 850 tilt/trim unit for a friend. We just mounted it on his boat and I am trying to lower the motor manually as the pump is not mounted yet. This is a two ram system with a remote pump with two solenoids on it. Does this unit not have a manual release to lower the motor? If so, where is it located and what does it look like? Nest question;
what is the reverse lockout control knob function? When I turn it the knob just screws off of a threaded shaft. How is it supposed to work and what is it to do?
Thanks in advance for the help.

If the motor was tilted up under power, it will not lower manually. if it is down, you may loosen the reverse lock and lift and lower it manually,although it is not real easy.

If you need to lower it manually, loosen one of the small hydraulic lines at the pump control valve. Oil will spray out and the motor will lower.
