I have a mcm transmission to a mercruiser II outdrive. originally had motor problem (head gasket) which has been fixed. when launching (in sling, its a 42' stardust houseboat) the boat was moving in the straps and I know it moved both forward and back. But motor overheated because impeller was gone. we replaced impeller (the impeller is like an automotive pump on engine itself) now it does nothing. I had put a differant prop on before we launched and knocked the prop shaft out about 3/4" but when reassembled everything seemed to fit good. this has an electric motor shift which is working (moving the lever)like i mentioned above, it did move in the straps? could something have pulled apart when the prop pulled in reverse? maybe a spun prop? anyone have any steps to diagnose? [/LIST] :(

Re: 1974 mercruiser II

the boat does not move. sorry for all the in between stuff but i thought it might help to establish a sequence of events. like i said, before we launched, i changed props (it was a used one from a reputable prop rebuilder) in the process of pounding off the old one, we pulled the horizontal prop shaft out from the hub about 3/4 inch. as we put the replacement prop on, we worked the shaft back in to the point it was, and felt the gears engaging when we turned the prop. put lock washer, nut etc. on and thought everything was good. remember, after this, when it was being launched, when put into gear, the prop must have been turning as it pushed against the straps lowering the boat. any other information you might need to get a handle on this, let me know. thanks for your quick reply.
