1974 mercury 200 20hp will not go into gear

Last year everything was fine. Today i put her in the water and the engine started fine, I pushed the throttle foward and the engine did not go into gear. No foward or reverse. All the engine does is rev. Normally I can feel the engine shift into gear but she seems like all she has i nuetral. Cables are moving in engine(throttle and gear)

If the cables are moving at the helm and at the motor, and there are no abnormal sounds or grinding, then chances are it is the shift rod that goes down to the foot, I have never replaced one in a merc but Johnson/Evenrudes are not a major task, 1/2 a day labor at home + parts.
