Hi all , was given a good and tested 398-5256 Stator , this is a 2 wire manual start one ( 2 yellow wires ) ,, my engine is originally a electric start model that had 2 additional Red & Blue wires on the stator , I know those 2 wires hooked up to the switchbox , what functions of the switchbox do the Red & Blue hookups perform ? If I hook the 2 wire stator up to the rectifier as shown in the wiring schematics will the engine still run without the Red & Blue wires hooked up to the swichbox ? It should just become a manual start then I figure ,, secondly they say not to run a electric start engine without the battery being hooked up , although I will not be using the starter do I still have to have that battery in the circuit using the manual stator so as not to burn out the rectifier ? The 2 yellow wires are whats confusing me as it was my understanding that they are the part of the stator that charges the battery ,,? No wires appear to go from the rectifier to the switchbox ,, I tryed to find a wiring schematic for a manual start 402 but no luck , Any help would be greatly appreciated , thanks Bill ..

Hi , I`ve checked all stator #s , if you look on the link you supplied the 174-5255 replaces all OEM 4770 , 5255 and my 5256 stators , this stator I have came off a running manual start 402 but out of town so I was not able to look at the way it and the wiring were hooked up , Bill

Hi Bill
Your right there is does it also has the red and blue wires are power for the switch box.
You just have to cap the yellows wire for the manual start that would go to rec/regulater At least that's what the paper work here in my hand is telling me. The red and blue wires power the switch box only. I don't have anything to tell you for sure what you have will work. I have looked back in my books. I don't see a wiring detail that was for the manual start so there I can't help you.
