Re: 1974 Mercury Thunderbolt 850
If you have an aftermarket Tach, check to see that the tack sender wire (brown) is connected to one of the yellow stator wires, at the rectifier. The old Merc Tachs (pretty rare) used the switchbox to send the signal. You may need to move the brown non distributor wire from the swithbox to the rectifier.
