1974 sears ted williams 7.5 hp spark problem

i have a 1974 sears ted williams 7.5 hp tecumseh motor it has spark but not very much. what could be wrong? .thanks

Bad coil, bad condenser, weak magnet in the flywheel, corroded points. I'd replace the points and condenser and see if that helps.

1974. I think that's one of the Solid State ignition models. If so, you have a problem. Parts are virtually unobtainable, particularly the drive coils and module that's under the flywheel. It's sad, because the engines themselves aren't bad, but there are a lot of these that have gone to the junkyard for lack of parts. When parts are available, they cost about what the whole outboard is worth.

Your best bet, if it is a Solid State ignition model, is to find another one that runs perfectly, and use your current one for parts.

Give us the model number of the outboard and we can tell you if it is, indeed, a Solid State ignition model.

I too, have one of these motors, and I supect spark problems. how does one get the flywheel off? (without breaking it)
Also, where is the 'Model No.'?

You need a manual. Check eBay...there's a guy there who has reprints.
