Welcome back, looks like you got some pretty big hurdles behind you now.

So tell me what is the material covering the bottom of the boat in the pic I reposted?

That is 3" thick rigid foam board between the stringers. It is stiff enough that it doesn't sag into the bottom of the hull- so water can still drain under the ribs. I also added rigid foam outside of the stingers, sitting on top of the ribs. I cut the foam to match the slope of the hull with a home-built hot wire foam cutter.

I am ready to re-install the steering wheel, but I am not sure if I have the mounting plate that goes behind the new plywood console face sitting in the correct position. I didn't take any photos as I was taking the old mounting apart and I must have thrown out the old mounting panel that the steering hub was attached to. Could someone please have a close look at these photos and tell me if I have that backing plate in the correct position. Also- how big a hole do I have to bore in the plywood? It looks to me like I will need about a 2" diameter hole so that the nuts will be recessed.

Wow an offset rotary helm, not sure I've seen one of those before. The hole is at least 2" as mine is 2-1/4" on my SS. Normally there's a plate that goes on the outside face too where the bezel attaches.

I don't remember a plate on the outside. Hope I didn't throw it away. I guess there is only one way to find out if this is the right position- start drillin'. Thanks for the feedback.:)

I would guess that is the result of corrosion on the inside of the hull. Do you see any pitting on the inside? If so clean it up really good with an ss wire wheel and coat it in some jb weld and laminate some thin aluminum onto it, on the inside of the hull of course . If any of it does go through to the outside you can sand it down. That's how I would do it but there are much more experienced people than me here who will hopefully chime in soon.

Oops, I didn't read the second page. I see your question on the pin holes was answered. Sorry.

Thank you for asking a lot of the same questions I am having about my 82 Sylvan. I wish mine was in the same condition yours was! :)
Where can I purchase that leak testing stuff...I'm apprehensive about doing it, but I know it needs to be done! :)
