OK folks, I'm new to boat engine repair. I took the lower end off to look and learn. I took the shifting rod out. Now I have no clue how to get it back. The end of the rod swivels with a 45 degree male notch that is supposed to mate with a swiveled deal on the end of the prop shaft...at a 45 degree angle on it. I'm really hoping this sounds familiar to someone out there.

Welcome aboard!

Some parts of the shift assembly require removal of the geartrain for reassembly, which is not simple. Others will chime in.

1975 has Power Shift. That what you have? If I remember correctly, the shift assembly and prop shaft have to go together simutaneously. (Or however you spell that word)
