I just bought a 1984 glastron ssv167 with a mercury outboard motor. What i know of the motor is its a 1975-1985 mercury 900 inline 6. This is my first boat and i think i may have made a critical mistake. I used the power trim to raise the motor for loading on the trailer. The motor is now stuck up. With use of the power trim button the motor will not lower. The power trim makes the same sounds as before but the motor does not move. Is the power trim not to be used for raising/lowering the motor for loading/unloading? How do i get the motor back down?

It should be used just as you have been using it, as long as you don't run the engine with a dry foot (it must have water constantly or the impeller will fail( in less than a minute in mostr cases)... So you're using it as designed.
My guess is the lock lever has engaged, thuis locking it in the up position.
Raise it all the way, go back and check the manual lever that slips-down over the pin by gravity.
To prevent this from happening, read the owner's manual (if you have it, if not, maybee someone here can help) regarding the way it werks. It is illustrated , and words wont cut it without the pics.
If the lock lever has not grabbed it, you may have a siezed hinge plate--but this is highly unlikely due to the wieght involved (gravity should win that war).

Turns out the system just needed oil - a lot of it. We bled the system and filled the fluid and it worked great.

Be sure to grease the tilt tube, usually where the steering cable goes in.

If the tilt tube is aloud to corode, it will cost a bundle, I know, my tilt tube had to be replaced and it cost me $550.
