i just got this boat.. started it and seem not to be charging... looked under the dash and found wire not connected ( the wire coming from the alt).. checked the voltage from it when motor running.. checks out to be 30 volts... is this possible?? thought it was the alt so i had it rebuilt.. still reading 30 volts...

not loose but disconnected... its the wire coming out from the alt think gauge wire.. single battery... and yes the meter was checked on the battery to make sure it was working proper.. .. yes it was rebuilt because it was done at a shop...

Measure the voltage between engine ground and the output of the alternator and also at the battery terminal. Don't measure up at the dash.

You still have the original regulator? It is a potted metal rectangular device that is mounted at the thermostat housing typically. If that is still your regulator, you should switch to an alternator that is internally regulated..
