I have a 1975 40hp Evinrude. Currently the engine will overheat when at idle. Also after running at full speed for a given amount of time it will also overheat. Then it stalls out and will not restart for a given amount of time. I took the lower end off and the water pump is still like new. Then I ran a vaccum and a air compressor through both side of water inlet and oulet and got air to move through both ways. I called a local marine dealer and they said I have a thermostat in my engine and it probably needs replaced. I was wondering if anyone new where to locate it so I could change it and see if that solves my problem. Any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much.
