Well this didn 't take long! Just got my new to me Bassrunner home....boy is everything buggered! Shift /throttle linkages are a mess! But here is where I'm stuck at already... Cheaply incorrect ignition switch wired in. Got a Clymer manual with it, but can't find this system in it to figure out which switch I need and how it's wired. Has a stator but was told it does not charge the battery. Ran out of daylight, but can't find anything like it in manual so I know how to wire the proper switch! I don't have much invested... but boy do I have project ahead of me! Boat is nice and solid though. It was always garaged, and I'm the second owner! Thanks for any ideas.....Steve

First thing to do is determine which electrical system the engine has. If it has two coils on the side of the engine it is a battery ignition with points. If it has two coils under the flywheel it is magneto ignition. Magneto ignition does not have an alternator and will not charge the battery.

Either engine uses a six pole, push to choke, standard ignition switch. Red goes to the "B" terminal, Yellow goes to the"S" terminal, and green goes to the center "C" terminal.

Now, for battery ignition, BLUE attaches to the "I" terminal. The rest of the wiring does not attach to the switch--Orange is overheat and can be attached to the "I" terminal. At the engine end, blue attaches to both coil positive terminals. White goes from its respective coil to its respective point set.

For magneto ignition, Blue attaches to one "M" terminal while white attaches to the other "M" terminal. Again, orange can be put onto the "I" terminal

Thanks Frank! It has a stator and two external coils. So it must be battery ignition. In which case it MUST charge the battery ,correct? Otherwise it won't run long! Switch that's in it looks automotive. No push to choke....but I can work around that. This entire boat is a wiring nightmare....NOTHING WORKS! No lights,no horn, no power to the trolling motor....and not a clue how to wire or where the two wires go in the foot control pedal! I should have stuck to the vehicles with wheels!

Hey Frank....if only blue goes to the switch...where the heck are the rest suppose to go? You need to crank it to start it!
