So I got this boat for free, and I want to fix it up. Problem is, I have no spark. It ran when it sat according to the previous owner, but this was 8 years ago. It cranks, and all the info I have really is this.

The wiring appears all to be good, I reseated all the wires I could see on the diagonal "rack" of wires (where they all junction together) could someone tell me what this is called?

I removed the flywheel and the stator appears alright, and the triggers are there, and the wiring too them seems to be intact. I was messing around with a screwdriver and an orange wire on one of the pickups and it arcs to ground. I'm not sure what that says, but if that helps anyone so be it.

I tried jumping the blue magneto wire to power and the white magneto wire to ground (both from the junction area) and still nothing.

I'm going to bring a volt-meter to do some more tests next time I'm working on it (it's parked at my ex-wives house) but any insight or hints that jump out at anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I know parts for this are basically impossible to find now, so I guess I could convert it to a newer system but I would have no idea how to do that. I have worked on cars most my life, but this is a new ball of wax for me. Thank you all for your help, just trying to get this puppy out on the water so I can take my kids out.

Musher, it's called a terminal strip. Pull out the high tension coil wire and set up a gap between the coil and ground. Remove the white/black wire from the dist. With the key on, tap the white/black wire to ground (carb). You should get a spark each time you tap it. If you do then the pre-amp is bad

Test the Magnapower box first. Remove the coil wire from cap and hook to a spark tester. Take white/red stripe lead off dist. Pull the red and blue wire on Magnpower box off the terminal strip power them both up 12V + , tap the white/red stripe to ground and look for spark.

Kbh121956,
l believe the op has a 60hp MagnaPower ll Chrysler motor,
No dizzy and preamp

the one with the factory problem...like the 120hp my son bought many yrs ago,

rmusher, don't put the flywheel back on just yet, l suspect your no spark problem will be caused by the modules under the flywheel,

find a manual, factory is best but a clymer will do,
page 232 details the problems with this system,

or look in the chrysler archives in the forum

don't think you will be able to find NOS modules but l don't live in the US,

2nd hand will probably be around somewhere,
that's what got sons 120 going ( same system but with 2 more cylinders )

cheers

Musher you have the Magna Power II ignition system and parts are really hard to find, especially the CD module.
Mostly the CD module fail at this system but from my experience it lost spark at one cylinder. Had one that 12VDC from the keyswitch got back wards to the module and both cylinders lost spark (fried the module). But all other lost spark at one cylinder.

This system contains of two triggers, one CD module, one stator module that only supply the battery not the ignition system, one rectifier/regulator module and one capacitor module.

If no spark at both cylinders the problem will be bad CD module, bad triggers and bad capacitor module.
Outboardignitiondotcom has the troubleshoot cart, check from that and figur out the bad part.

Franz Marine may have CD module new or used, but they are hard to find.

Convert to another system ..yes maybe the Prestolite system that was the retrofit kit from factory when they change during warranty in the seventies.
But if you should change to Prestolite you need a whole new set up for the ignition system with mounting plate, timing base, CD module, ignition coils and flywheel.

kbh121956... this system is another system then you refer to. It has not the Magna Power I with distributor.

Nordin and Tassie1, My wrong! Thank you for the correction. I didn't notice the "II" in the magnapower description. I've heard to steer clear from these certain engines.

Thank you all for responding. Seriously. The more I've read about it the more I realize how much of a pickle I'm in with this boat haha. I just want to see if I can get it running for a season or so, since I won't be able to afford a boat for a very long time haha.

If something is broken, I don't think I can afford to get the replacements, or can justify spending the amount of money it would cost for them. I'll run some tests this weekend and see what I can figure out. Also, I'll post pictures so you can maybe point out what parts I don't understand. I'm great with cars, but this is a whole new world, at least the ignition haha.

Well I looked at it with my cousin last summer before it got cold here, and we still couldn't get spark. Think I'm just gonna end up putting another motor on it. Where would be the best place to sell this motor or get a little out of it? Just looking to offset the cost of getting a different motor. Thank you all for your help and contribution. Gonna try to mess around with it one more day before i throw in the towel and put on another motor though, but I'm not very confident.

Musher.... have you troubleshoot it with help from the chart at outboardignitiondotcom?
It is quite easy to do it

I picked up one 60Hp 609HA almost for free in late september last year.
No spark at both cylinders and as I wrote in my post earlier I have never seen one of these Mag II 60-65Hp with no spark at both.
I thought this one had a bad CD module but I was wrong.
Troubleshoot it and both triggers was bad.
As I own two other engines with this ignition system one 60Hp and one 65Hp, I have collect parts and I put two "new" used triggers in and now it is running.

I have not run it on a boat yet just with muffs because it is still winter here in Sweden.
