GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
I’m at a loss.... it turns over... I have good spark ... compression is good.... I have fuel.... even putting a little fuel in the cylinders won’t help..... new plugs put in.....
Timing does NOT go out of adjustment.----A sheared key does throw the timing out.------And no a timing light can not be used for checking to see if key is sheared.
With fuel in the cylinders it should at least " bark and roar " for a second or so !!-----Tell us more.----Like when did it run OK for you last ?--What happened ?-------What work has been done on the motor ?----Are all the wires on the correct terminals of the powerpack ??
I just got the boat.... was told it needed a solenoid.... got that replaced and found it was missing the 20 amp fuse as well.... was told it has a new starter and water pump was rebuilt.... from what I can tell all the wires look correct.....
There is someting wrong.-----With fuel in the cylinders it should at least BARK !!-----From 1111 miles away I say there is an issue with spark and timing.----Up to you to trouble shoot or run to your local friendly boat shop !
alright so with some more digging I found the electric choke was not hooked up or on the motor. I hooked back up and noticed I'm also missing 2 other wires which I'm guessing go to the Thermo Switch. I didn't see any loose wires anywhere but I did notice what looks like a black plug with a wire size hole on one side and the nub of what looks like a wire on the other side. would this be the problem? would taking the choke off by pass this? I'm not even sure what the thermo switch does.
There was a service bulletin suggesting eliminating the choke thermal switch. However, with you dumping gas into the carbs or cylinders, the problem is not lack of fuel. Possibly too much fuel??
So I checked the spark with the plugs in and there is like none..... and you can definitely notice it turns over slower with the plugs .... but take them all out and it spins like crazy and gives lots of spark..... would this be caused by a weak battery?? The battery that is in there now is a car battery ( no I didn’t do that, and yes I’m getting a new marine battery)
My advice here is always the same.-------Take starter apart for inspection and an ohm reading from commutator to the shaft.----Elegantly easy to do.----Have battery load tested .----Inspect your battery cables too.------If it cranks too slow it will NEVER start.-----A difficult concept for some to understand.----Inspect your starter before rushing out to buy a new one.
