Alright guys I need some help. I have a 1975 85hp engine I’ve been trying to get going that is giving me fits. I get good spark. Compression on all 4 cylinders in 105. I’ve rebuilt the carbs. Sprayed out all the passages on the carb. This engine will pop using starting fluid but won’t fire on gas. Fuel is getting to the bowls and I’ve taken the carbs apart twice on it. I guess any insight would be great. I was going to try and redo the fuel pump next.

I used a spark plug light, I guess I should mention this motor does have new plugs, coils, and timer base.

Does the spark jump a gap of 7/16" or more as designed / built by the factory ?.-------Have you taken starter apart for inspecton ?----Checked the flywheel key ?----Did you torque the flywheel nut to 100 FT-LBS ?

I have not done a specific gap test with gap tester to see if it’ll jump 7/16. Only because I didn’t have one. I did do the old hold the spark close to ground and see if it’ll arc and it does, but maybe a better pick up a gap tester. The starter is new. Flywheel key looked good when repairing timer base. Flywheel nut was tourqued to 105#.

clean your spark plugs, ground the ht wires then turn the engine over for 3 seconds.
remove the plugs and check all a wet with fuel. light it to make sure it burns, ie not covered in water
