Hi Everyone,
I have a 1975 Chrysler 45 hp 457HG on a 15ft Chrysler Sport Satellite. When I go into WOT, I am only getting 3000 RPM's. The speedometer is only reading around 5 MPH. It's the battery ignition with the alternator. It idles fine, and there is no hesitation going up throttle in gear. When I get it from mid throttle to WOT, the tach get up to 3106, and that's it. The outboard does not sound like it is at full throttle.
Here's what I have replaced:
A. New Fuel pump and gasket.
B. Two new screens in the fuel recirculation reed plate. The original screens were clogged up.
C. New Screen in the fuel pump filter.
D. New fuel filter.
120PSI on both cylinders. Spark is fine. I made sure the timing is at 30 btdc at wot, per the service manual. The tank is clean. It's a newer 6 gal attwood. The fuel line is not stiff, it's flexible, and I am not seeing trash in the carb bowl. On that note, I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and compressed air this week. No crud under the needle, and the main jet is spotless. The float is at 13/32'' when hung upside down. I adjusted the throttle cam bar going to the carb, so when it's in WOT, the butterfly is horizontal. The choke butterfly stays at horizontal when not choked, so it's not causing a restriction.
I have owned the boat for the last year and a 1/2. I put the tach on the boat at the beginning of this season. So I know for the last 4-5 times out, that it is constantly only getting up to 3000 at full throttle. The boat is actually under propped. It's got a 10x10 3 blade on it. The Chrysler Service manual says it should have a 10-3/8 x 13-1/2 on it.
The boat will have me, 1 gas tank ,1 battery, and 1 anchor in it. I really don't think I am over weighing it down. Any help figuring out how to get the WOT rpm's back up to 4500-5500 would be greatly appreciated.
