Is it safe to use Evinrude TC-W3 2 stroke oil in my gas for a 1975 25 hp Evinrude outboard. The guy at the boat shop said its better. It just seems a lot thinner than the Penzoil Marine 2 cycle I had been using. Any advice would be helpful.

Hey, it's made for your Evinrude. And about fifty trainloads of other motors.

All the TCW3 oils will work, none are going cause the motor to self destruct, so pick one and use it, if for no other reason than you like the color of the bottle.

Or....there could be a conspiracy and Evinrude is selling bad oil so the motors blow up and create work the dealers, plus sell more new motors...but somehow I don't think that's the case.

Well thanks for the advice and the smarty pants answers. The oil was just a bit thinner than I was used to. Wasn't sure if it would be ok for an older outboard. It says on the bottle its specially formulated for oil injected engines which I don't have.

Lubrication in outboards is not well understood.-----It always leads to lively discussions.

There is a viscosity spec for TCW3 oils, they all need to be in the correct range.

No Title

Actually, I was concerned about the viscosity when the stuff first came out. But not to worry, it's OK. We used to order it by the truckload to save on shipping charges back in "The Day" and had it stacked in every available corner.

Some neat old motors there, 76 200 hp, 1971 125 hp, Old V4 with magneto, 1970 60hp, 1975 or 76 strangler, 1975 50hp and a 1975 V4 of some kind. Even some test wheels on the wall. I will assume you were in there too

It can't be too bad, it has get the engine thru the warranty period.

I have a 1976 200, and couple of the small motors in the pics, the 200 actually runs very well, at least it did the last time I used it.

Yep, that's me leaning on the 200hp. Many years and many tears and a few pounds ago. Notice the brass props on the wall. Those are service award plaques I earned from Evinrude for outstanding service.
