1975 Evinrude 50hp no more chirp when turned on

Yesterday the starter solenoid failed while at the boat ramp of the local lake. So after troubleshooting trying to solve that problem, I realized that the chirp at the remote doesn't work anymore when I turn the key. Actually... I don't even know why it chirps to begin with, but I figure it needs to keep doing it. Any thoughts? Maybe a fuse blown somewhere from constantly reconnecting the battery cables?

That chirp is the overheat horn self-test. It lets you know your horn isn't broken by chirping as soon as it gets power. Chances are you just need to replace the horn. Did you get inside the control box to troubleshoot your problem at all?

Ok. Nope we didn't dare venture in there. Could the overheat sensor be disconnected somehow?

there is a 20 amp inline fuse, near the solenoid. it provides power to the control box, ignition switch, ect.

The engine will still start with the key, does that mean that the fuse isn't blown?

Your horn is likely shot as mentioned. Do not run the motor until you fix this problem. Taking the remote control apart and testing it will determine for sure. Ensure the ground is good and all connections are still entact.
