I have a 1975 Evinrude 70 hp that I am trying to replace the ignition switch on. I have a 5 terminal switch currently and am replacing it with a 6 terminal ignition switch. The switch has the choke build in but i currently have an external choke switch. I want to wire the switch so I can keep the external choke switch. I was told this is possible but after trying to wire the ignition switch I am not sure it is compatible. I am not sure where the wires go because the colors do not match with what I have found online.
Mine wires are as follows:
TWO PURPLE WIRES (ONE COMES FROM THE ALARM THE OTHER FROM THE CHOKE)
TWO BLACK WIRES (ONE IS THE GROUND FROM INSIDE THE POWER PILOT THE OTHER COMES FROM THE ENGINE)
ONE RED WIRE (I THINK THIS ONE IS FROM THE BATTERY)
ONE BLACK WITH A YELLOW STRIP (NOT SURE WHAT THIS ONE IS)
AND A TAN WIRE (THIS IS THE NEUTRAL SWITCH)

Any help with which wire goes to which terminal would be very much appreciated.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

We are going to deal with YOUR wires so forget the diagram or whatever you were looking at.

PURPLE WIRES: This purple wire should connect to the "C" (choke) terminal on the new switch. If you insist on the two hands required to start the engine with the separate choke switch rather than a single hand with push in on the key to choke, then the purpose choke wire goes to one terminal on the SEPARATE choke switch. That switch will then need a separate wire that gets 12 volts from the "I" or "A" terminal on the ignition switch. Your ignition switch will not be labeled with both "I" and "A". It will be one or the other but they mean the same thing. That being +12 volts with the key in the RUN position.
BLACK WIRES: Your ignition switch has two "M" terminals. Each black wire connects to one of the "M" terminals. With the key ON these two terminals are open allowing the engine to run. When you turn the switch OFF, these two terminals are connected which kills the engine.
RED WIRE: Is the +12 volt feed from the battery via the engine harness and connects to the "B" terminal. This wire will hot all the time (key on or off).
TAN WIRE: If this is indeed the neutral switch, it gets connected to the "S" terminal on the ignition switch. This terminal is active when the key is turned to the START position which energizes the starter. The neutral switch prevents the starter from engaging in forward or revere.
"I" or "A" TERMINALS: The only thing connected to these terminals would be the +12 volt feed to the string of gauges and the alarm system. These terminals are active with the key in the RUN position.

So we have the "C", "S", two "M's", the "I' or "A", and the "B" terminals covered (all six of them).
