Ok. Im not having loads of luck with this engine right now. Previous owner had tried to use pieces of irrigation tube as guide tubes. They had crushed into the housing causing the tubes to bend out of shape.

I am wondering about the best way to repair these. I think they are beyong bending back into shape, at least from underneath. Ideally I would like to drop the exhaust housing to get better access but im not keen on removing the powerhead to do so. I think there are 2 bolts which go down into the housing from above, in front of where the steering assy bolts on. It may be possible to get to them after removing the whole steering arm and swivel bracket with the engine on a crane but I am not sure - does anyone know?

My idea was to somehow join new pieces on perhaps with something like heater hose and clamps or solder with capillary couplings. Is this just regular half inch copper pipe? If not, I do have a single donor tube from another later model motor. 20220110_201706.jpg

Find a complete fresh water midsection.-----Some will argue but that is my approach.

Freshwater motors are quite hard to find here in Australia. Not many of these early twin water tube motors still around at all. I think chances of finding one in better condition are slim. Im fairly committed to the motor at this point so i think repair is my only real option.

Agreed ---fresh water stuff would be hard to find there.----Midsections are plentiful here in some places.

Is there an easy way to see if water is leaking at this join between the tube and the housing once lower unit is installed? Does it has to be a perfect seal to get adequate cooling pressure?
