Hello all. I have searched and searched and can not find a solid answer and was hoping you all would be able to help. I recently bought a boat (my first), and it came with a 1975 Johnson 25hp 25R75B. On my maiden voyage, it started to slip out of gear. If I feathered the throttle JUST right I could get it to stay and get up to speed. Long story short I found a 1969 Johnson 25hp parts motor for sale for $100. Will the lower unit from the ‘69 bolt directly to my ‘75? I’ve looked up part numbers and it seems as if the housing #’s are the same, and the driveshaft #’s are the same, but the clutch dog #’s are not the same. I even called a local outboard repair shop and he wasn’t 100% sure. Please advise, and TIA!

Thank you for the clarification! I was driving myself crazy trying to figure it out without buying it and trying it. Much appreciated!

Agreed you should check to see if your prop is slipping before pulling the trigger on a lower.
You can mark the prop and the hub and take her for a spin if your marks are no longer aligned you know you have a spun hub.

Agreed again. I missed that part and it would be worth pulling the trigger.
