I have seen a revision for the later 70hp Johnson outboards on how to add a tell tale but it did not include the 1975. Is the procedure the same and in the same location as the later year models? I like the idea of better drainage for winter and being able to see the water pressure the top of the engine is receiving. Any help is appreciated.

That is hard to say not seeing your engine up close. I did install a pee tube in my '76 40 HP Johnson, but there was a boss rising on the very top that was perfect for that installation. But I did that install with the engine disassembled as well and that aided my efforts to get it at the top and not drill into any cylinder. I can't tell you where to drill, but obviously it has to be into the water jacket to work. And the closer to the very top you can get that, the better. That way there will be no air pockets trapped there. JMHO

I added one to my 1977 70 horsepower Evinrude by using the instructions from this Forum. I don't know if your 1975 is the same as my 1977 or not.
