I recently picked up a 1975 Evinrude 70HP motor (model 70753e) with all of the controls however it does not have trim. I am now trying to determine what trim unit it takes . I have had a hard time finding information on the internet and need some advice from an experienced person that knows.

From what I have found so far it appears this motor could use two different types of tilt units. One had a single ram and the other used dual rams.

Can someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance.

BTW... the motor started right up, pumps water and runs perfect. It has that wicked triple cylinder rumble. (Paid $200 bucks for it)

Re: 1975 Johnson 70HP Tilt Unit ?

Most of these motors came with a Prestolite Trim unit. It is not a great system, it is more a tilt than a trim unit. I have a 1975 115Hp and this summer I changed my original Trim for a SNC power trim unit.
Picked it up off of the net for $300, new costs about $700.

Would you be willing to sale the original system?

If possible, can someone post a image of the trim unit which I need. I am still not sure what it looks like. ;)

to the top as I have the same problem. Have a worn out 1989 70hp with trim and tilt, will it fit-work?

I would really look into a CMC tilt/trim, they cost about what you will pay for an original and they will actually work.

The odds of finding a working 36 year old TT are pretty slim and even if you do who know how long it will work for.

With a CMC you know it is going to work, install is a breeze and it comes with a warranty, I have run mine for 7-8 years without any problems.

Re: 1975 Johnson 70HP Tilt Unit ?

Good luck finding one for this motor. I had been looking for several months. Your best bet is to go with a CMC PT-130 tilt and trim unit (jack plate). The old aftermarket units are just tilt and will not hold up under pressure more than a idle. This unit is great. I just finished installing one and I have the exact motor you have. Wish I had done it years ago. Keep a eye on ebay and you can pick a used one up for around 400.00 incliding shipping. I promise you wont be sorry.
