As I said in an earlier "Solonoid" request this evening, can some one please tell me how to access the ignition in what I guess is best called the Johnson Control Box so that I can pull out ignition and get the right one and key and then start working on the wiring issue?
I could remove the shift lever and then the Phillips screws in the box's lower part, but cannot figure out how to get the top part of the Box open so that I can reach and replace the ignition, its wiring, and then get the correct key.
I have tried to gently remove the ignition with channel locks, etc., after I removed the plastic retaining not, but it doesn't seem to come out that way. There are at least 3 metal plugs on the top of the box, and I wondered if the screw head just sheared from age. Do I carefully drill them out, do my thing, retread the screw holes, and insert new screw?

You may find the original factory exploded parts diagram helpful here. Check out this factory website: epc.brp.com Once you get into the correct parts list for your exact engine, you can see how the control box goes together. The original key switch has the original key # stamped on it. Once you get that key number, you can order that exact number from any Evinrude dealer. Pay attention to item #12, the bolts for the control box housing. (sorry, you will have to remove the control box from the boat. You can remove the control box handle by unscrewing item # 50.

I apologize! First, I have a 1975 Evinrude Power Pilot, NOT a Johnson Control Box. Second, the exploded parts diagram confused me because I couldn't figure out which bolts, screws, etc. allowed me to access the ignition switch in the diagram, even though it was by my fault for giving you the wrong control box in the first darn place. Because I am not particularly "mechanically-intelligent," do you know if the ignition switch in the Pilot can be accessed by loosening bolts, screws, etc. UNDER the Pilot. Unfortunately, I'm tapping away like crazy at home, and the boat is in storage about 20 miles away and I can't get there until Sunday.
Any input you may have will be greatly appreciated. You might see a variation of this same inquiry in another post because now I've got the correct control box name. Thank you!

Just looking at how it looks from a typical web search, I would say you need to open the control unit up to get to the ignition switch. There is a usual nut on the outside of the ignition switch, but that is more for holding it tight and not letting it turn as you turn the key. It won't allow the ignition switch to be removed from the outside with that nut removed. So start looking for how that control unit is attached and take a few picture as you disassembly your to get to the switch. JMHO
