I have a 25e75b johnson short shaft motor that needs a starter harness from
key to motor plug. The harness is know longer made.
My nephew (18) bought boat and did not pay for two summers and i repoed the boat back. When i got the boat home, harness, key switch and wires to battery gone.
The moral of this sad story is do not sell to family members.
How can i rewire motor to make it electric start again? I also need a key switch.
THANKS

Re: 1975 starter harness

that motor is very simple,

Starter Solenoid wiring.

Terminal # 1. positive cable from battery. And small lead to power starter switch and choke ( this should have a 20 amp inline fuse) ( these can just be push button switches) from switches, the lead goes directly to the choke solenoid. The start goes to terminal # 2 when the switch is activated it will activate the solenoid to send power to the starter.

Terminal # 3, grounds back to the battery directly.

Terminal # 4 is the positive battery cable directly to the starter motor.

You will have to have a ground cable attached to a good bolt on the engine block, back to the battery.

Push choke button choke should operate.
Push starter button, starter should turn motor.

Adjust your throttle cable so that the the control is pull all the way back the engine will die.

What size wiring?
Should i remove the harness inside motor?
Harness goes to starter and solenoid.

Re: 1975 starter harness

eBay might be the answer to getting the switch to motor harness. I needed the same harness for a project motor that I was working on. Being that it would not be my primary engine, I looked for 2 years. Found a dealer on that had some items listed. I sent him a message of what I was looking for. He had a NOS harness, switch and dash plate. Cost incl. shipping was $155.00.

When you see a seller with lots of stuff, ask if he might have what you need. Right now, I'm loking for a pair of .030 pistons for a 72 25HP that won't break the bank for a spare power head.

Happy hunting.
