1975 Ted Williams(Eska) 7.5 hp Model 217585910, runs way to rich, to much fuel into carb, replaced needle and seat. When gas is shut off the engine runs great until carb is empty. Any suggestions on what to do???

Hi Roach: I have a 1974 7.0hp Sears Ted Williams (Tecumseh powerhead/Eska lower leg) that had this problem. Took carb apart and found a long red rubber thingy that had a crack in it. This is part of the pumper mechanism that enables this carb to run on an external tank. You need to order a carb rebuild kit from Sears and replace all carb gaskets, diaphragms, etc.and you should be OK. I didn't do this, I just sealed up the opening in the carb plate and threw out the fuel pump parts and drilled a hole which allows fuel to gravity feed into carb from built-in tank. I did this because I didn't realize that the parts were still available. My engine runs great and doesn't flood out anymore, but I can't use an external tank. I don't recommend this procedure. Get the complete carb kit and you should be fine. Good luck!

I think they call that the fuel pump. They actually even had one of those at the local sears lawnmower shop. It was a buck or two.
