Hi my outboard ran great last weekend but when I tried to start this Friday no spark or very very small on all 4. Battery full and was spinning 300+ rpm. I have spent last 2 days going through past posts on the subject. Was getting confused on the diagnosis process. And from posts seems like I need to spend a small fortune on tools like a dva adapter etc. All I have is a multi meter. Can someone help . For the cost of tools/parts or a shop I might as well just replace with cheap used outboard.

A 50 year old motor.----Some will argue.----Step #1 is a compression test.----Post the actual values here.----Then test charge coil and sensor coils with your ohmmeter.

I too have strange gremlims that infected my personal boat/outboard.

I did as stated above with ONE ADDITIONAL thing..........

Get a piece of 220 sandpaper and start at the battery-
Disconnect BOTH positive and negative posts and sand them lightly...... sand every wire connector involved with the battery......move onto the starter and do the same.

My motor is a 1984 and tends to demand attention in the form of maintenance.

Good luck

Like I said the testing process in the manual had me confused. Where and how to test those? The boat is currently dead in the marina.

Do not ne surprised at the poor record of brand new motors. Some still waiting for replacement new parts. Very poor cast Aluminum parts. Replacing only the defective parts with......ONLY......Genuine original make parts. will / should solve the problem for another 50 years. (y)(y)

Price out replacing that motor. Motor and all the new controls cost and labor.
