I'm looking at replacing the fuel pump or purchasing the repair kit for a 1976 25 hp Evinrude, but I'm having a problem verifying the correct part. The fuel pump I now have on the motor looks like the 15/25 earlier models with a square configuration. I'm looking at the Sierra 18-7352 fuel pump which states it is for 25-55 hp, 1976-89, but has a different configuration. Will this fuel pump still fit my motor? And is there a repair kit for the pump I have now?

The correct one is the smaller one. I don't know if the larger one fits where it mounts on the 22 cid block. If the larger one fits they use a reducer elbow between the pump and carb. There is a repair kit for the smaller pump

I believe 18-7351 is the larger pump with correct hose fitting sizes.

Thanks, I'll look for the smaller repair kit. I believe it's the Sierra 18-7823, replacing 0393088. The motor has been sitting in a Quebec cottage for some 10 years. I've replaced plugs, points, condensers, drive coil, ign coils, carb kit, gear oil, water pump. Sea foam added to gas and ran for awhile (lots of smoke, depri in water). Ran straight gas/oil 1:50, nice and clean exhaust. All points, timing, good spark set. Now, it runs good high and low for awhile then quits. So I believe it's starving for gas. The fuel pump diaphragm is warped quite a bit, hope that's the problem. Fuel lines and squeeze bulb are good. Also, the lower water weep hole has milky gear oil draining. I plan on replacing the drive seals and other seals as well. Should have done that when replacing the water pump. Let me know if I missed anything or if there are any other comments. I'm learning a lot here, thanks. My next project is a 25 Aquasonic, serial numbers are after the ingenious change, but it was given to me so no worries. I'll do my best.

Before tearing into your gearcase, drain it and check lube for water intrusion (water or milky oil). Stuff coming out weep hole could be unburned fuel mix..common for 2-strokes especially if not running correctly, and seafoam in gas would likely make the matter worse at first.
