My 1976 25 hp evinrude will start if I squirt gas into the carb, then dies. It seems like there is no fuel going to the carb. I replaced the fuel pump, rebuilt the carb, and replaced the fuel.lines to the fuel line and carb.

Could it be the lower cylinder, which seems like it operates the fuel pump pressure?? The upper spark plug is dry and looks normal, but the.lower plug is oily and wet.
I replaced the points and condensers 2 seasons ago. I thought a.bad plug, so I changed the and still nothing.

Need some help

One step at a time.------Remove the plug ( 7/16" wrench ) on the carburetor bowl.-------Squeeze the bulb.------Does fuel pour out ?

Possibly the 2 hoses on the pump are reversed..----Next step is to see if fuel comes out of the pump hose going to the carburetor when you squeeze the bulb.

Yes fuel is coming out the outlet of the fuel pump to the hose that goes to the carburetor.

Revisit your carburetor work.---Passage to float valve plugged. --Float upside down perhaps ?

The float was upside down. After changing it back and adjusting it, I tried to start it. It started up without any choke required. After adjusting the slow speed needle I got it to idle nicely. Just in the nick of time for my musky trip this weekend. Thanks racer1 and Flying Scot.
