1976 85 hp johnson reverse plunger

I was lookin to buy a boat and the guy said the reverse plunger was out of it and he said it was only about 40 bucks im new to boating and wondered if anyone new what he is talking about and if their was a link that might show a pic of it any help would be greatly app Thanks

either something is shot i the lower unit and it will be more than $40.00 or the cable is stretched or miss adjusted. Try to take the cable off and see if it will slip into reverse by hand. If it won't then you might want to look at a different motor or for a new to you lower unit.

could be many things some expensive, some just an adjustment. bad cable, as said above, misadjusted shift rod height, or a bad clutch dog or oil pump in lower unit.

Thanks i think i will pass on this boat and find one i dont have to work on before i use it thanks again

smart move, if is so easy to fix with a cheap part, let the seller do it.
