Hi All;
I have a 1976 9.9 Johnson pull start outboard. I was out bouncing across waves in the Zodiac entertaining my 10yrs old. I got back to the dock and the motor would not re-fire. I almost pulled my arms off trying. I could get to run for a few seconds then try to move and it would die and not re-fire. I replaced a cracked coil, did the points and condensers, still a no-go. Finally I pulled so much that i ruined the recoil. I dropped it off at my friend who is an OMC mechanic and he informed me today that I need a new armature plate and a few other pieces as the one in there is so sloppy, that it is throwing off the timing making starting impossible.
Bad news is the part is now obsolete and not available. Would Joe Reeves instructions of denting the brass fix my issue? Is there any other suggestions out there before I head to the cottage tomorrow?
Thanks
Brock
