Hey guys I am planning on restoring a boat and motor that has not been used in about 8 years. The motor looks to be in good shape but we have no key. We need to replace the ignition but struggling to make sure that the replacement ignition will work. The steering is also not hooked up correctly and will not turn. The hull and trailer seem to be in pretty good shape. Most of the work seems to be cosmetic which I am not too worried about. What I am the most worried about is the motor. Is there anything you guys recommend doing to help the motor run? So if you guys have any advice I would really appreciate it. This is my first restoration so anything would help. Thanks.

Post your motor questions over in the Force/Chrysler form. There are some great guys over there that can help out with motor questions. I use to have a Chrysler 75HP and got all my parts from Fairwinds Marina in Annapolis, MD. A long time ago they were a Chrysler dealer and they still sell a lot of parts for Chrysler's. First thing with the motor is get hooked up so you can turn it over and do a compression check. If it has good compression then keep on moving with the repairs. If it does not, you are looking at a rebuild. As Chrysler's have not been produced since the Mid 90's parts are getting a little tougher to get. Chrysler became Force in 1984. Mercury Marine bought Force sometime after that and built them up through the mid 90's.
