1976 Evinrude 15hp. Upgrade exhaust cover?

I have a 76 Evinrude 15hp. Water just comes out the back. Question, is it worth the trouble of putting an exhaust cover from a 77 on this motor just to have an actual tell tale? I think I have to take the powerhead off to get to the bottom bolt? Thx

Or perhaps you could drill and tap the existing cover ?

Yes I thought about that as well. I think I found an exhaust cover and the newer style head. So I might buy those and pull the powerhead this winter, change impeller, and thermostat as well. Thx for the response..
